A few years ago a skateboard park was built on Orcas Island. Will, my son, took it up; I began roller blading and taking pictures of him. For several years I made books of skate pictures for Will as Christmas presents. My weakness for playing with the dangerous "hue & saturation" tool in Photoshop led to the heavily altered images of this "color enhanced" portfolio.
In 2009 we visited New York City. The deal was to split the trip into 1/2 culture, 1/2 skating. By being discrete, Will skated Rosenthal's sculpture "5 in 1" at the Police Plaza! The weather was great so we skated and walked much of mid and lower Manhattan. Street skating in New York is an amazing contrast to park skating; riding up and jumping off walls instead of flying off bumps and hips.
