Madrona Point Insights • 1985
Located at the heart of Orcas Island, Madrona Point is a sacred burial ground for the Lummi Nation. A peninsula of extraordinary vistas and fragile wildflowers, it is in my opinion the omphalos, or spiritual center, of the island.
The "Madrona Point" book I made was first exhibited at the Orcas Center in May 1986. Containing 20 images and text excerpts from A Pattern Language, it helped publicize the successful effort to purchase the point and give it back to the Lummi for preservation.
